Jazz Match Offer To Millsap

Millsap

As you have probably already heard (unless this site is the only place you get your Jazz news... in which case I'm flattered, but I still think you should get twitter and, at the least, follow me), the Jazz have decided to match the offer Portland gave Paul Millsap, toxicity and all. Makes sense, right? A toxic offer would be deliciously appealing to the guys who play in JazzMat/Melta Center/Cherno-Bowl. Plus, matching offers is in the Jazz blood, be it their own guys ('Sap now, Miles last year) or guys they're chasing (Corey Maggette, Jason Terry).

What's really surprising is not that the Jazz matched (that was expected by most) but instead that they didn't take the full 7 days, as was expected. Not quite sure why not. Maybe they made up their mind and decided it didn't matter if Portland had their money freed up earlier and was allowed to chase other guys. Or maybe there's something else up (Boozer trade?) that made them not worry about matching earlier? Or maybe they just want to have a long weekend? Who knows... we'll find out soon enough.

So, now the question for you... is 'Sap's salary good? Is it too low? Or is he being overpaid?

Was it the right move? Not sure. I don't think he should be getting starter money. Either way, the Jazz were stuck and had no choice. These moves are not the ones I thought the Jazz needed to take to become a contender. We are slightly above average in the West right now.
