Man, we have really been slackers lately. Dream Shake was kind enough to exchange some very insightful and poignant questions with us before last night's travesty of a game:
1. What offensive set has shown to be the most productive against the zone def.....screw it.....
Your mom goes to college...
2. Who's "cry" session was worse. AK47 or McTeary? And Why?
AK47 was worse. 1. McGrady cried because he wants to win so badly that he couldn't help but hurt when he lost. 2. AK47 plays for the Jazz, much like OU, the Jazz suck. 3.AK cried because they wouldn't let him play, not because he couldn't play, they just wouldn't let him because he wasn't good enough 4. Did I mention that I hate the Jazz? 5. You don't cry when the games are still going, like Morrison or Kirilenko. It's still not cool to cry afterwards, but it's at least a little more manly than after Game 1.
3. Do you really expect Crazy Pills to stay with the Rockets next year? Why hasn't he flipped out yet in Houston?
Yes, I believe he does everything Morey believed he would, and is only a 3-4 points a game shy of what he hoped he would do. He rebounds in traffic, he passes better than anyone I know imagined he would, he D's up anyone that you ask him to and he doesn't complain. If there has been a knock on him in Houston it is that he is too unselfish and takes too many shots late in the shot clock when he should have just taken over and gone to the hole. He's starting to come around on his feel for his place on the team, and his coming off the bench will go a long way for his box score filling stats. I also believe Ron will sign for around 10MM a year for 4 years. I hope they don't try to lowball him, Ron Ron is all about the respect and he can get that money elsewhere. I think he likes it in Houston and knows this is his serious shot at a championship. That goes back to the respect thing, he wants a championship so he'll be "Ron the Champion" and not "Crazy Pills from the Palace". He knows what people think of him. He knows that this season referees are holding him to an impossible standard. I can count on one hand how many times he's even looked funny at a ref. In all cases he's kept his mouth shut. It's pathetic that they are making him work so hard to just play a game. He won't flip out this year, I've been trying to tell everyone that since the trade started. He can be immature, but he's far from a stupid man. He knows he can win here and he can get paid here if he keeps it together. There is no doubt in my mind that he will do that, at least for this season.
4. On a scale of 1-10, how awkward is it for Rockets fans when Jeff Van Gundy is the TV analyst for a Rockets game. What do Rockets fans think of him now?
It is a 1, there is no one I enjoy more doing Rockets games. He's the most insightful announcer out there and he has specific Rockets knowledge that no one else has. I have no animosity to the man, and while I like Adelman and am happy with him, I miss JVG. He made a mistake when he did not answer Les Alexander with a firm "yes" to the question: "Do you want to coach the Rockets next year". And since he did not, Adelman was interviewed. Les liked what he heard and JVG was not renewed. Van Gundy knows he made a mistake and I honestly believe he regrets it. I would welcome him back at any time. Most Rockets fans that I've heard from liked him and know how good he is as an analyst.
5. If the injury bug hadn't bitten both the Jazz and the Rockets, what would their records be today?
Rockets 23-6 - That's a 4 game swing, mostly the games we lost that we had no business losing. Jazz 22-8, you have a good team, but you could be one player short of great. Unless Boozer or Millsap can play Small Forward and I wasn't aware of it.
6. WTF? So he's whiney AND greedy? Why did he choose Jazz blue for his ride? [ Ebay link]
Since when is that color "Jazz blue"? Your team color is Baby Blue Pearl? Maybe that explains why you never win championships, your team color is baby blue oyster irritant. Or is it an imitation pearl? Man made in some lab to always fall short of being taken for the real thing?
I'm still a little frustrated over the game and the poor officiating at the end of regulation and the second overtime. One thing I've noticed over the past couple games is that Deron does not get the respect from the officials that a lot of the NBA's marquee players do. If you ask any knowledgable basketball fan who the top 3 point guards are, they will all include Deron Williams. But when you watch that game last night you have to wonder if he's going to be one of those guys that the league promotes, like DWade, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, etc. He certainly doesn't get the foul calls that those guys do, and nobody can deny that all 3 of those guys would have shot free throws after getting hit by Yao Ming on a layup. The Jazz certainly had their chances to win the game, but they were put at a huge disadvantage when Ron Artest was getting hand-check fouls his way and the Jazz couldn't get a body-check foul on a layup. I was happy with how they battled, especially without our top 3 scorers and rebounders, Memo, Millsap and Booz. If any one of those guys plays, the Jazz win by 6 or 7. Steve Luhm sums it up nicely here. Be sure to stop over at Dream Shake and let them know we gave them a belated Christmas gift.
As much as Rockets fans want to shout over this victory, it's still just a regular season game and, if I'm not mistaken, they still haven't won a playoff series in about 10 years.
Next game is tomorrow and I'll try to get up a pre-game power ranking. I'll also be at the game so I'll try to get another pic from Booz (they're his tickets I hear, courtesy of the sis, and NO she didn't have to do anything sordid to get them).

And it scared the mess out of me when Deron finally remembered, oh wait, Rafer Alston sucks and he's guarding me, maybe I'll just go destroy him.
