Gain one, Lose one

Deron is in.  CJ may be out.  I think that's more than a fair trade.  Deron had 30 and 9 the last time these 2 teams met, but Dirk had 39 and 8.  Let's see if he gets tossed out again.

isn't this more like "gain one, lose a quarter"

just kidding. I actually like CJ

truthfully...so do I. And you're right, comparing Deron to CJ is like comparing Chris Paul to Rasual Butler.

I'll take Deron and lose CJ any day. (No offense to CJ Miles Fan Club President C.B. Jack.) Just put Ronnie P. in and he will do just as good a job, if not better. In fact, give "I Heart" Korver more minutes too. We'll be alright. Thanks for the update Scrum.

booner, pull your head out. CJ is at least 2 times better than Ronnie Price, who is, at best, a fringe NBA player. Korver is overrated. What they should do is play Miles more minutes, Korver less minutes, and Ronnie no minutes. (although Brevin Knight has been pretty god-awful as well.)

Realities:
PER
Miles 12.30
Korver 10.99
Price 9.38

FG%
Miles 47.2
Korver 41.3
Price 38.6

3pt%
Miles 36.3
Korver 35.0
Price 32.1

Pts
Miles 9.7
Korver 8.2
Price 5.1

Other
Miles 2.4 reb
Korver 2.8 reb
Price 2.7 ast

Miles, who is 21 YEARS OLD, would do well with an extra 5-6 minutes a game, which would boost his confidence and help him get into the flow of the game. Also, the 2-3 positions do not seem to rebound well for Utah. I wonder if this is because the 4-5 are good rebounders, or if it is a scheme thing. Your thoughts?

Thanks for the stats Boyd and I do get your point. I wasn't trying to start a debate regarding who the best "medicore" Jazz player is right now. The reason I said what I said was because, in all honesty, Boyd, is CJ leading us to the Playoffs? No. He, like the rest of the role players on the Jazz, can put up 25 points one night and a goose egg the next. I wasn't trying to say Ronnie Price is a better player. My point was what difference does it make right now? Anyone can have a stellar game at anytime, including R.P. or Kyle Korver.... not just C.J.

Sometimes I really hate stats because PER does not account for the 2 WTF plays that CJ gives you each night. Whether its an ill-advised 3 followed by stupid foul on the other end (but not a hard enough foul to stop them from making the shot so it becomes a 6 point swing) or a stupid turnover followed by the said stupid foul. All of which would hopefully start to clear up with maturity, but I don't think that it ever will with CJ. Regardless of him being only 21 years old, he is a 4 year NBA vet and should have a better understanding of the game by now.

I think that the stat we should be paying more attention to is the plus/minus and see how the team does while CJ is out there vs. Korver or Price. Ultimately that is what leads to wins anyway.

Boyd. We're made of rubber, you're made of glue, dont' come on our board and kiss on CJ.

Dude sucks plain and simple.

Fact is I too would rather see Ronnie Price on the floor than CJ.

Ronnie Price plus minus= -28
Korver = +70
Miles= +3

I agree, Hammy. Stats don't tell the whole story. That being said, looking at the whole picture, Miles has been maybe a wash with Korver. I just think that Korver has probably maxed out his potential, and you know exactly what you will get from him. Miles? Not so much. I think he still has some room to grow. And if he grows even a little, he will be more valuable than Korver. (which I would argue they are about a wash as it is right now.) I don't see what you lose from playing Harpring and Korver less and giving those minutes to CJ, to see if he can give you more in more minutes. some players improve with more time, some do not.

Unless thats a typo I will take Korver and his +63 over Miles all freaking day long. That is a bit more than being a wash between CJ and KK. Bottom line being is the team is better with Korver on the floor than CJ and its not even close. Korver is the better player and should be getting more minutes at the expense of CJ. At what point do we say that CJ has reached his potential? After 5 or 6 years in the league? Unfortunately I think we all know that CJ is who he is right now and the potential has been realized.

???

+63 ain't much in reality. Perhaps you don't understand the plus/minus stat. Besides, plus or minus can be misleading as well as all stats, as you never know how much of that comes during scrub time. Korver, while mainly playing with the second unit, faces inferior opponents than Miles. Also, the Jazz 2nd unit is a strength, while the starting lineup has been injury riddled and has not permored as well as they would at full strength.

Korver is not a better player than Miles. They are both below average defenders, below average rebounders, and decent scorers. The difference is that Miles is 21 with a ton of athletic ability, and Korver is 27 and very limited athletically.

Also, the saying "he is who he is" is retarded, cliched, and needs to be retired. Of course he is who he is. What else could he be? If what you are trying to say is that he's maxed his potential, I disagree vehemently. Miles has made MAJOR improvements from last year, and still has room to grow. If he can learn to limit his mistakes and give a more consistent effort, both things that come with age and experienece, he will be vastly better than Korver.

And let's not ride the wave of Korver having a good game last night. Let's not forget that he has, for the most part, been a big disappointment this season.
