Talking Lakers With-Malice

I took a few moments out of my hectic, hectic day making money fist over fist to sit down with Don at With-Malice. With Malice is our Bloguin Lakers representative.

As I sat at my desk I had my secretary type of some questions that were coming to my mind. Here is how Don responded to the questions my secretary emailed him on my behalf. Did I mention I make A LOT of money? Consider it an FYI.

Booner, TBJ: Your thoughts on the "Blockbuster" Morrison trade? We at TBJ cannot figure out why L.A. would do that and since you are the one behind all of it, please explain:

Don, WM: Wait, what? We got Adam Morrison! WOOT!!! We're SET! Talk about covering Andrew Bynum's absence! Ok, in all seriousness now, it's all about clearing space to be able to pay Lamar Odom his salary. At least that's my opinion (you did give me a good idea for a piece tho'!)...

Booner, TBJ: You just beat Boston in Boston and Cleveland in Cleveland. Are you guys scared of anyone? My guess would be the Spurs but you just beat them too. I hate you guys. (No offense.)

Don, WM: The Spurs... definitely the Spurs. It's an odd year - they're due. I think it would take a silver bullet, 9.4 liters of holy water, consecrated ground and 15 kg of ground beef to stop them.

Booner, TBJ: Do you really need Bynum to win the Championship this year?

Don, WM: A week ago I woulda said yes. Now? I think we can win it, but it'll be tougher. People forget that it's not the same team that Boston faced in the finals, they're a year together now: Gasol's tougher, Odom's more focused, and the team's playing both their defensive and offensive schemes MUCH better now. Additionally, Trevor Ariza. Ariza lifts a lot of pressure off Kobe defensively - he can guard the key scorer on most teams, which means that Kobe's got more legs at crunch time. Also, Ariza really sets the tone as far as 'defensive intensity' on the Lakers.

That said, I honestly believe Andrew'll be ready about 10 days before the end of the season.

Booner, TBJ: Which Team Name has less meaning for their respective hometown: Lakers or Jazz?

Don, WM: Ha! It's a toss-up, huh? I'd go with Jazz. I mean, yes... no lakes near the Lakers... but my understanding is that Salt Lake City is the very antithesis of 'Jazz'. Am I wrong?

Still... Memphis Grizzlies? Maybe you guys should switch names (I realise that there are no bears in Utah, but the temperament of the fans fits... or am I getting in hot water again?).

Booner, TBJ: How many Karl Malone jerseys are still worn at the Staples Center? (I know that guy that still sports his Utah Jazz Donyell Marshall Jersey has to have a cousin in L.A.)

Don, WM: I think I counted 3, and I believe that maybe Vanessa Bryant has one... OUCH!

Thanks Don. You can read my responses to Don's questions HERE. Here's hoping the Jazz pull this one out tonight. If not, it's gonna be a long hot bath with some vampire books for me to get rid of the depression.

Toodles!
