Jazz vs. Zers, 8:00 pm

Tonight there is a basketball game. It's an important basketball game. This basketball game means a lot to two teams in particular. Here is how I see things shaking down. I'll steal the format from our "good" friends.

 bolerjack_pCB's Breakdown

Portland Zer coverge at Bust A Bucket

Jazz

Zers

Edge

Comment

Deron Williams

Steve Blake

jazz_note

Seriously? Prepare to get destroyed Steven. When we have "Mr. 4th Quarter Ice Water in his veins Clutch Money anti-overrated often underrated" on the court, we always have a chance.

Deron = Best player on the court tonight

Ronnie Brewer

Brandon Roy

blazers

This one was closer for me to call. I wanted to go with Brewer simply because he's a hell of a lot cheaper than Roy. Plus, he's not a D-bag, but I will concede and say Roy will probably have an average night. Brewer will be too focused on defense to worry about putting up mind blowing numbers. However, Brewer's mustache is much cleaner than Roy's.

*Chill Zer fans. Of course you have full advantage here. I'm just trying to get your blood boiling.

C.J. Miles

Nicolas Batum

blazers

jazz_note

Here's your gangrene match-up of the night. This really means nothing as we'll see Millsap/AK/Fernandez getting most of the important minutes here. Is anyone a winner with these two on the court? However, when it comes to Goofy looking pictures, I would give CJ the edge.

Carlos Boozer

LaMarcus Aldridge

jazz_note

blazers

This could be the best match-up of the night. These are two human beasts with pretty decent jump shots. I would guess that whoever gets the guts to take the ball to the rack will win this duel...not good news for our turntable power forward.

Mehmet Okur

Joel Przybilla

jazz_note Can't wait to see how lost Pryzbilla looks as he has to leave the paint to come and guard our Money Man. Memo needs to bring his cash money to this game. We need him. I would dare say he is the X factor. This is one position where the Jazz could exploit their advantage.

Bench

Andrei Kirilenko

Paul Millsap

Kyle Korver

Michael Ruffin

Shavlik Randolph

Raef LaFrentz

jazz_note Ready for the truth Zer fans? The Jazz have the best bench in the NBA. +/- doesn't lie. Plus, look at those winners you have over there? This is the best you could do? I would expect the Jazz bench to play a big part tonight after the Jazz nearly blew that game against the Knicker's last night. Our white guys against your white guys? Jazz win straight up.

jazz_note Get ready. I'm only going to say this once. I really like Nate McMillan. I think he has potential to be one of the greats. Now, even with that said, Jerry is untouchable.

OVERALL DECISION
Jazz

Priceless: http://www.bustabucket.com/forum/portland-trailblazers/489-game-against-jazz.html

No advantage to the 'Zers for home-court?
(Just asking... it'll probably have an impact).

The Jazz give advantage to no one!

The Great Pumpkin shakes it down a little differently.

PG - Jazz - No Contest

SG - Blazers - No Contest

SF - Blazers - Batum has been solid lately, and the scary thing.... he's only 20 years old. Watch out for this guy.

PF - Blazers - Aldridge has been a monster as of late. Boozer will get his, but LA has the better night.

C - Jazz - This is close, but it's hard to measure Pryz's impact so I'll give it to you so you dont whine.

Bench - Blazers - Rudy, Outlaw, Sergio and Oden are too much for anyone to handle. Here's a litle known fact: Outlaw ranks #2 in overall Clutchness, right behind B-Roy. D-Will comes in at #14, which is nice, but probably won't get that job done.

It's going to be a great one tonight, I think the 'Zers bench is the difference in this one.

My prediction: Blazers 101, Jazz 92.

Ruffin, Randolph and LaFreantz ay? LOL...I'll give you guys props. For once you actually did something intelligent dare I say entertaining on this site.

You guys suck. I know where the Jazz are staying and D. Williams is going to be sitting on an ice-pack pre-game after I make him squueel like a pig!!! And then he'll get his dessert at the RG.

Nice rip-off of a shakedown. Your site is a joke and the Blazers are going to run you out of town tonight.

Good day.

Do Blazer fans know that they are LITERALLY putting money in our pockets by posting here so much?

Not a bad job in your position comparisons, but I'd say since Roy runs the point so much for Portland, the Blazers also have the clear advantage at the point guard spot as well. I mean come on, your PG can't even make the all-star team.

You guys also have a nice bench, but I think the fact that the game is in Portland the obvious advantage there goes to the Blazers. AK will decide to use his 1 cheating token for the year on a Blazer dancer before the game, so he won't have a lot of energy left. Ashton Kutcher just isn't as effective away from the Delta Center (its not ESA) and Rudy is just plain better than him. Also, the fact that you HAVE to play your starting PG 42 minutes a game is not a good thing Jazz fans. This is a long NBA season.

Anyway, Portland has the home court, the best player on the court, and the best bench in this matchup. Should equal a nice win and sole possession of the 5th spot for now

Olympic team > All Star Game

Deron > Roy
...
written by Cablinasian, March 31, 2009
Actually, he was in the Olympics because he has been in the league one year longer. When the Olympic selection process began, he was a candidate and Roy was not. Had Roy been in the Chris Paul draft class, he would have been on the team.

And yes, it is the Chris Paul draft class. CP3 is the better passer, rebounder, scorer, shooter, defender, "stealer," and is better looking than Deron, whose ugly beard and befuddlingly bad tattoos are very Utah.
...
written by CVD2312 (Troll), March 31, 2009
Its funny that the coaches are the ones that select the all-star reserves. Ouch, that must hurt, huh? They choose the best players that deserve to be all-stars. The Olympic team is not put together by selecting the best players, which is obviously seen by the selection of Jason Kidd on the 2008 team. So there ya go.

Roy has definitely taken over Deron as of this year. Chris Paul has always been better than Deron. Plus Deron's tattoos and weird ugly hair are absolutely hideous

Since almost every factor is in the Blazer's favor, i.e., road game, +.500 team, back to back, Blazers w/ 2+ days rest, Jazz gave up 2 20-point leads, it's almost too easy to pick the Blazers, which is why the Jazz may pull it out.

It has been interesting to see such an insecure group of fans lately. I thought that Jazz fans were the kings of the inferiority complex, but that torch has been passed. It seems as though this same group of trolls (just here to "pick a fight") is intent on disparaging any Jazz player or fan at any cost. It's the ugly side of the sports fan world really, and CVD's forum post over at Bust-a-Bucket is the best example. It's not about how the Blazers are better and should win, it's about how can they attack any and every aspect of the Jazz fanbase and organization.

Now I know someone will respond with, "c'mon man! it's all just fun and games!" But I don't buy it. It's clear that these fans HATE the Jazz and their fans and want to spend their time tearing them down, rather than building up their own team and having the guts to concede that their team is not perfect and has flaws. It's almost impossible to find a comment that isn't entirely ad hominem attacks and non sequiters. It's sad really.

This is a JAZZ blog intended for Jazz fans to come and talk about the team. Obviously we can't stop others from coming and posting, but the way that some people treat the privilege is pretty disrespectful. I hope that the Jazz posters here will use this as an example of how NOT to treat an opposing team's blog.

Anywho, I hope the game is exciting and that the Jazz win! But Portland is a good team and it will be tough.

Excellent comment Scrum. Way to put things back into perspective.

I also want to clear the air of my name. I once posted on Bust A Bucket and said I thought they were crazy for choosing the Zer bench over the Lakers bench. I was immediatly labled a "Troll". after the Zer's won the game, I went back to the same post and I admitted I was wrong. Again, labled a "troll". At that point the Bust A Bucket readers called for a "shit storm" on TBJ. Classy.

anyway, I've deleted millions of their comments as a service to TBJ Readers.

...
written by CVD2312, March 31, 2009
Really Scrum? You're really going to write a comment acting like True Blue Jazz is the "mature" one in all of this?

I said before that I usually like your posts because they are normally well thought out and fair. But that definitely doesn't go for CB Jack, Hammy, and The Agreement (where has he been?). They provoke Blazer fans in almost every post they put up, even if its a completely different topic. If you don't want Blazer fans commenting on here, than how about trying to not have so many posts mocking their fans or putting down their team? Did you ever think about that? Seems like it'd be a lot easier than deleting comments all the time. You see comments and forum posts at Bustabucket that make fun of the Jazz, and we are expecting to get comments back from you guys. Do you see bustabucket asking Utah fans to stop commenting on their site, or telling you how you should comment? No. Get over it.

Don't you think it would be a little boring if this site was only Jazz fans talking about how much they love D-will? I would think having other teams fans coming on this site and mixing it up a little makes a nice little rivalry between fans.
...
written by Scrum, March 31, 2009
I think you missed the point entirely. I didn't claim that we were the more mature blog, and I did ask that Jazz posters be more respectful. I know this may come as a shock to an insecure fan, but you don't actually have to comment on EVERY SINGLE comment made about the Blazers. This is not a rhetorical question, but which POSTS, not comments, were designed to mock the Blazers or their fans? Is it anything like your forum that you started over at Bust-a-Bucket? Have some class, man. I'm not asking you to stop commenting, just that you make good comments that are more than mindless or degrading jabs at the players or fans. To sum up: take your Blazer paranoia down a couple levels and have the balls to entertain the idea that the Jazz have a good team (perhaps as good as Portland) and that we like our team at least as much as you like yours. It's not a culture war, it's a goddamn basketball game.
...
written by Scrum, March 31, 2009
You are right on. But when the comments about their team start infecting posts that don't even MENTION their team, then it gets really tiresome. And we don't think it would be boring to talk about Deron the whole time smilies/smiley.gif
...
written by brock, March 31, 2009
Cablin- "Actually, he was in the Olympics because he has been in the league one year longer."

He wouldn't have made it anyways. He is maybe top 10 SG in the League. Plus, everyone knows that the all-star games are meaningless exibition games that nobody cares about. Having said that, Deron will eventually get his.

Actually, Deron has averaged more assists than Paul the past three months. The only reason Paul has more stats was because DWill was injuried earlier this year. Plus, DWill and his crazy tats have pummeled Paul whenever they have played. Now,even Mark Jackson (you know, second all-time in assists behind stockton) thinks DWill is better than paul. He didn't mention Roy, however.

CVD2312

(You must be a zer fan when you choose the abbreviation for Cardiovascular Disease as your screen name. Whats 2312? Your pulse everytime you watch the Zers?) Better keep that blood pressure medication by you when the jazz make things nervous.

Oh, and Jason Kidd is a future Hall of Famer. So, Future hall of famers usually are selected on Olympic teams. Thats why Deron got selected. He is also a future HOF. Roy, jury is still out on him.

written by brock, March 31, 2009
Just for the record, Roy is very, very good. I'm just having a little fun. Comparing him to Deron is really like comparing Ray Allen to Steve Nash. Roy tends to score more. Deron is more concerned of running the offense and setting up teamates, while taking his when its there.

A history lesson if you will: Rip CIty is a phrase from former Blazer radio announcer Bill Schonley (who can out-bench Hot Rod Hundley, by the way) who coined it during the championship season when we was straight ballin' out of control. It's a nonsense way of saying that the ball swished throught the net. His other catch phrases include "lickety brindle up the middle" and "bingo bango bongo baby." It's no "Hammer dunk" but then again, what is?

I really hope you're not that ignorant, Brock. Maybe a top 10 SG in the league. That is funny. He is no question the 3rd best behind Kobe and Wade. You are hilarious.

I like how you choose a 3 month window to state your case that Deron is better than Paul. "Deron has averaged more assists than Paul in the last 3 months" is possibly the most stupid statement I have heard to argue that. How about this for an argument: Chris Paul actually plays defense, and is easily the best defensive PG in the league. Chris Paul is way smaller than D-Will, but grabs about twice as many rebounds per contest.

P.S. Why would Mark Jackson mention Roy when talking about the best PG's in the league? Think before you type
...
written by CVD2312, April 01, 2009
There are a lot of future hall of famers in the league....that doesn't mean they are top players any more. Dikembe Mutombo is probably a future HOF, if he were American do you think he would've been selected?

I would say that Roy will be in the HOF before Williams, but Roy will probably still be winning titles after D-Will has hung it up, so that probably won't be the case. And I'd like you to name me any HOF'ers that never made an all-star game.....yikes
...
written by Scrum, April 01, 2009
If it's a BS call for Roy or a non-call on Deron, I might firebomb Portland.
